We are excited to welcome our Session Bet campers to Camp this Wednesday, July 14!
Thank you for being our partner in preparing your child(ren) for a successful summer by discussing the following with them before they arrive at Camp.
What it will feel like to live with others.
After a year in which many children did not have the same social opportunities as usual, being at Camp may be an adjustment. Speaking with your child(ren) about problem-solving when things do not go smoothly and adjusting to a new situation will help them be in a growth mindset when they arrive at Camp. In Camp, they are with peers for 24 hours a day, and for some campers this will be tiring. Please remind them to take breaks if needed and to use their rest time to regroup.
Emotions and coping skills.
While Camp is a place to try new things, meet new friends and have fun, each of us will have moments when we feel upset, sad or frustrated. Camp is a great place to practice coping with these emotions, but it is not acceptable to yell or be physical with others. Please remind your child(ren) that it is ok to feel sad sometimes at Camp and use appropriate coping skills, and their counselors are there to support them.
Using Appropriate language at Camp.
Throughout the year, children are exposed to a range of media outlets. Sometimes the content they watch or listen to uses language or concepts that are not a part of our Camp culture. Please remind your child(ren) that we do not use disrespectful or discriminatory language at Camp and that cursing and sexualized expressions are unacceptable.
Wearing a mask and social distancing at Camp.
As the world may have opened up, we are still operating with COVID-19 protocols. We had great success in Session Aleph with mitigating exposure to COVID-19. We will start Session Bet with the same protocols of masking, social distancing and outdoor programming. And throughout the summer, campers will wear a mask while in the Chadar Ochel (Dining Hall). Please help us by reminding your child(ren) about these protocols before they arrive so that no one is surprised by these rules.
