Planting for the Next Generation

Today we celebrate Tu B’Shvat, the birthday of the trees. As Ramah Darom marks its 30th year, I have been thinking about a story that feels timely.

An ancient scholar, Honi the Circle Maker, was once walking through the woods when he saw a woman planting a carob tree sapling. Knowing that a carob tree takes 70 years to bear fruit, he asked her, puzzled, “Why are you planting something you will never benefit from?”

The woman did not stop her work. She simply replied, “My grandparents planted carob trees so that one day I could taste their fruit. Now I am doing the same for my grandchildren.”

For three decades, Ramah Darom has been a place where campers forge identity, families deepen connections, and people of all ages discover vibrant Jewish community. What began with the vision of our founders has grown into a legacy that has shaped thousands of lives.

Just like the trees we celebrate on Tu B’Shvat, legacy gifts are about planting something today that will flourish long into the future. By including Ramah Darom in your will or estate plan, you help ensure that this legacy continues for the next 30 years and beyond, shaping generations of children, adults, and families to come.

Legacy gifts are often simpler than you might think. Naming Ramah Darom as a beneficiary of a retirement account or life insurance policy, or including us in your will or trust, can cost nothing today while creating tremendous impact tomorrow.

I would love to discuss how a legacy gift can reflect your values. Please email rebecca@ramahdarom.org or call me at (404) 503-2129 so we can set up a time to speak. If you prefer, you may also complete a Declaration of Intent via PDF or this online form.

It’s time to plant for the next generation!

P.S. Already included Ramah Darom in your estate plans? Thank you so much! Please let me know so we can celebrate you as a member of our Mapal Legacy Society.
