Each summer and throughout the year, Ramah Darom is honored to host a delegation of staff from Israel—our mishlachat. From Israeli culture and tradition to unique skills and wisdom, these inspiring individuals bring so much to our kehillah (community). And in return, they find something here, too: connection, belonging, and a kind of magic that stays with them long after their time in the mountains of Ramah Darom ends.
In a time of global uncertainty and challenges, their voices remind us what it means to be part of something larger than ourselves.
A Shared Story of Identity & Pride
One staff member reflected on what they hope campers carry with them:
“Be proud of who you are. Israel is not perfect, but it is home. Jewish identity is far more than a religion… it is about family, community, culture, and values like love, care, and empathy… There is something unique about the Jewish people… a deep sense of connection and responsibility for one another… Own it, be proud of it, and carry it with you wherever you go.” — Or Moshe
Seeing Each Other More Clearly
“Working at camp really strengthened my understanding of the connection between Israelis and Jewish communities abroad… Through daily interactions with campers and staff, I realized how powerful personal encounters can be in creating a real connection.” — Chanan Shoshan
“Working at camp made me realize how deep the connection between the Jewish community in the United States and Israel truly is… It helped me appreciate how Israel can be both a personal home and a shared symbol of identity for Jews around the world.” — Or Moshe
Finding Voice, Confidence & Community
“It’s shown me how important my Jewish Conservative identity is to me—and how important it is to me to build a community.” — Devorah Leff
“Ramah Darom was the first place that was truly mine… It gave me a space where I could just be myself… It taught me that I have my own unique voice and strengths.” — Talya Danino
A Second Home
“I see Ramah Darom as a kind of family that I have outside of Israel… I feel at home, surrounded by people who feel like family—my second loving family.” — Aharon Levy
“It is a community of amazing people where everyone can be themselves without being judged. Kids make lifelong friendships, which shows how real this community is.” — Yuval Davidoff
“After the events of October 7th… I realized just how much I needed this place… I truly have a place here.” — Talya Danino
A Place That Changes Lives
“Camp Ramah Darom changed the course of my life in a way I could never have imagined… Camp gave me more than a summer experience; it gave me my life partner and the beginning of the family we built together.” — Michal Moshonov
“I can’t imagine my life without the experience I had there. A pure Jewish mosaic that changed my life for the better.” — Hagar Amgar
To our amazing mishlachat: thank you for sharing your culture, your spirit, and your hearts with us. You make Ramah Darom stronger, richer, and more connected—today and always.
