Here’s Everything We Wish We Knew

Last summer was our family’s very first time at Camp Yofi—and while it was absolutely amazing, we quickly realized there were so many little things we wished we had known ahead of time.

So if you’re getting ready for your first Yofi experience this summer, this guide is for you. Think of it as a “from one parent to another” cheat sheet to help you feel prepared, relaxed, and ready to enjoy every minute.

Packing Like a Pro (Trust Me on This!)You’ll be busy, active, and outdoors a lot—so packing smart makes a big difference.

Use this packing list as a guide and…

Bring More Than You Think You’ll Need:

You’ll go through things faster than you expect!

  • Extra towels
  • Plenty of socks and undergarments
  • Bug spray and itch relief
  • Multiple pairs of shoes (pool, walking, Shabbat, etc.)

👟 Think of it like a Disney trip—you’ll easily be walking 10,000+ steps a day, and your feet will thank you for having options.

Essentials You’ll Definitely Want:

  • Pool gear: swimsuits, swim shoes, sunscreen, pool towels, goggles (if needed)
  • Climbing activities: closed-toe shoes + athletic shorts or pants
  • Messy activity clothes: outfits and shoes you don’t mind getting covered in slime, shaving cream, or paint
  • Backpacks for everyone (yes, parents too!)
  • Reusable water bottles for each family member

Shabbat Attire

Think dressy casual:

  • Men: khakis + button-down or nice short-sleeve shirt
  • Women/girls: dresses or skirts (shoulders covered is preferred, but optional)
  • Sandals are totally fine

Things That Are Good to Know Ahead of Time

  • There’s a steep hill between the hotel rooms and the dining hall.
  • Older siblings have extra evening activities—bedtime rules are a little more flexible for them.
  • Once the opening ceremony ends… things kick off fast!
    • Make sure backpacks are ready (don’t leave them in the room)
    • Dress kids in play-ready clothes (especially for messy first-night activities!)

What a Typical Day Looks Like

Here’s the general flow so you can get your bearings:

  • Breakfast (together)
  • Kids head off with counselors for activities
  • Parents have optional programming
  • Lunch (families reunite)
  • Afternoon family time
    • Structured programs
    • Arts and crafts
    • Lake and pool activities
    • Climbing Tower
  • Dinner
  • Evening family activity
  • Bedtime hour for younger kids
  • Parent evening event

💡 Helpful tip: The Chavars are incredibly supportive and can help during meals or even step in during family time—don’t hesitate to ask!

What Is Shabbat Like at Camp Yofi?

Shabbat has a different feel—in the best way.

What Changes:

  • Some activities are closed
  • No golf carts or cars
  • Phones and photos are not used in public spaces

It’s a really special time to unplug, slow down, and just be present as a family.

Fun Traditions You’ll Get to Experience

Part of what makes Yofi so special are the traditions that happen every year:

  • 🏀 Staff vs. parent basketball game
  • 🎭 Talent Show
  • 🎤 “Name That Celebrity” (men vs. women during parent night)
    • Current standing: men are on a 4-year winning streak… 👀

Final Thoughts

Camp Yofi is one of those experiences that becomes a core memory for your whole family. Yes, there’s a lot to take in at first—but once you arrive, the atmosphere, community, and energy make it all worth it.

If you remember nothing else from this guide:

  • Pack extra
  • Be flexible
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help
  • And soak it all in

You’re going to have an incredible time.
