Celebrating Pesach with Ramah Darom

For me, passing the cows is like crossing the Red Sea.

Anyone who has ever driven to Ramah Darom in Clayton knows the cows. You see them lounging – sometimes on the left, sometimes on the right – just before that last curve in the road as you approach the south end of our campus. For me, passing the cows represents my exodus from the craziness of city life and a return to the joyful, beautiful, calm surroundings of 70 Darom Lane. When I cross the small bridge next to the cows, I am crossing into my personal promised land.

I have the great fortune to be writing this message from my porch overlooking the Welcome Center, boardwalk and the tennis courts at Ramah Darom. Yes, it rained this morning – it does occasionally rain in 30525 – but the sun has now re-appeared and the forecast is for a gorgeous day as we prepare to welcome Passover guests to our campus.

Passover at Ramah Darom is always a special retreat, and this year it is made even more special because of the events of the last year. For most of our guests, this is the first time they will be together with others outside their immediate family. Much of the programming will take place outdoors (we have three giant tents on the kikar), the Chadar Ochel has been set-up to ensure at least 9 feet of distance between tables and we have strict COVID protocols in place for our guests and staff.

Even with these changes, the core of Pesach at Ramah Darom remains intact: we will create a beautiful community together over the next ten days. We will come together – safely – for davening, learning, hikes, bonfires and endless games of masked MahJong. We are excited to welcome our guests and thankful that we can be together again.

Wishing everyone a Chag Kasher V’Sameach. We hope to see you again soon at Ramah Darom – but for now, please enjoy the “spicy” treat below from CRDAA.
