Summer 2020 Cancellation Resources
If you were not able to join us on Sunday, May 3, here is a link to the Camp Parent/Guardian Zoom Meeting Webinar.
WILL YOU BE OFFERING ONLINE CAMP THIS SUMMER?
While nothing replaces the magic of being at Camp, the Ramah Darom team is working on ways to provide opportunities for camper engagement and connection over the summer. As a start, we are planning camper Aidah Zoom gatherings in the next few weeks. We also plan to continue posting video content each week on Facebook. While we don’t plan to offer a full online camp experience, we’re exploring ways we can stay connected with our campers over the summer.
WILL KIDS SKIP AN AIDAH?
Through online Aidah gatherings and, hopefully, some in-person get-togethers over the next several months, all campers will have the chance to have a 2020 Aidah experience – albeit a very different one. We are looking to incorporate some of the anticipated activities or “rites of passage” of a particular Aidah into alternative experiences and next summer’s program. Our hope is that as a result, when campers return to Camp in 2021, they will be ready for the next Aidah.
WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR GESHER 2020?
We are working directly with our Gesher families to find a way to ensure these campers have a Gesher experience this year – although, again, it will different. Depending on how things evolve it could include an in-person (but shortened) Gesher experience in Clayton later this year, and hopefully even a Gesher trip. We haven’t figured it all out yet, but we are determined to find a way to create something meaningful and memorable for Gesher 2020.
WILL RAMAH DAROM BE OK FINANCIALLY?
Cancelling Camp, as well as the cancellation of all Ramah Darom retreats and campus rentals this spring (including our Passover retreat), will have very serious impact on our organization. We are a non-profit and almost 80% of our annual income is generated from these programs. We have applied for several loans and are asking for the support from some large Jewish philanthropies. But we will need the generosity of our Camp families to help get us through this challenging time.
WHAT HAPPENS WITH THE TUITION FEES I HAVE ALREADY PAID?
Later this week you will receive an email with information to select your options. There are three options and you will be able to “mix and match” your selection (although we hope you will choose options #1 and/or #2):
- Donate all or a portion of your paid fees as a tax-deductible donation to Ramah Darom
ALL DONATIONS WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DOUBLED thanks to a generous $1-for-$1 match from JCamp180Harold Grinspoon Foundation. And, if you opt to donate all fees paid, we will guarantee no Camp price increase for your returning campers in 2021.
- Roll forward all or a portion of your paid fees to Summer 2021
If you roll forward all your fees paid (or a combination of a donation and a roll forward), we will guarantee no Camp price increase for your returning campers in 2021.
- Request a refund of all or a portion of your paid fees
CAN WE CHANGE SESSIONS IF WE ROLL OVER OUR TUITION TO 2021?
Yes. When we announce our summer 2021 Camp dates, you will have the chance to choose the session in which you would like to register your camper(s).
WHAT IS THE CANCELATION POLICY IF I ROLL FORWARD MY PAID FEES TO 2021?
Ramah Darom’s usual enrollment policies will apply including cancellation/refund deadlines, with additional flexibility provided if cancellation should be required due to COVID-19 related issues.
WHAT HAPPENS WITH MY FINANCIAL AID/SCHOLARSHIPS?
Community-based scholarship decisions, including One Happy Camper grants, are all made locally so you will need to contact your Federation or synagogue to ask if they are able to roll forward to 2021. Ramah Darom is also encouraging Federations and synagogues to roll forward all 2020 scholarships.
If you have been awarded a Ramah Darom scholarship for 2020 and you roll forward all fees paid to 2021, your full scholarship can also be rolled forward to 2021. If you have not yet heard about your Ramah Darom scholarship award for 2020, please email Deanne Brown. You are also welcome to apply for a Ramah Darom scholarship again in 2021, particularly if your situation has changed.
CAN GESHER FAMILIES ROLL FORWARD THEIR PAID 2020 FEES FOR SEMINAR?
WHAT ABOUT SEMINAR SCHOLARSHIPS FOR GESHER 2020 CAMPERS? CAN THE 2020 RAMAH DAROM SCHOLARSHIP BE USED FOR SEMINAR?
There is a separate scholarship process for Seminar coordinated through National Ramah. Please contact Jeff Goodman for details.
CAN YOU SEND EACH FAMILY THE 2020 AIDAH CONTACT LIST SO CHILDREN CAN CONTACT FRIENDS?
Yes, we will send this in the next few weeks.
WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP THE LOCAL COMMUNITY IN CLAYTON, GA? CAN WE HELP BY SUPPORTING LOCAL BUSINESSES WHO WORK WITH RAMAH DAROM?
You can find links to local shops via the Clayton Merchant & Business Association – some have online stores and for the others, you are able to call and order a gift certificate for future use.
Below are resources to help you navigate this disappointment and loss and help you support your children, and yourself, through this difficult time.
If you are concerned about the duration, intensity or frequency of your child’s response, please reach out to a mental health professional in your area or one of our Camp mental health support staff, listed below.

Staying connected with our Camp community in this time of social distancing remains our priority. Please stay tuned for our summer plans and visit Ramah Darom at Home for the most up-to-date information on our virtual program offerings.
The financial implications of canceling Camp are serious. Ramah Darom’s business model relies on Camp fees to cover not just our summer costs, but also our year-round operations. Thanks to the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, all Camp tuition reallocation donations will be matched 1:1* and all other donations will be matched 2:1.
*We will be sending more information to Camp families about tuition reallocation options soon.
