Our Story

In 1997, a group of visionaries shepherded by the late Leonard Kaplan (z”l ) and Mayer “Bubba” Mitchell (z”l ) came together to create a dynamic center of Jewish living and learning in the Southeast. With the goal of providing exceptional year-round Jewish programming and camping for children and adults of all ages, celebrating a deep love of culture, religion, diversity, nature, spirit and community, Ramah Darom was born.

In the 20 years since turning this vision into a reality, thousands of kids –from young children to teenagers – have grown up at Camp Ramah Darom, shaping their Jewish identity in life-changing ways. Thousands more have visited our 122-acre campus for year-round programming, enjoying the beauty of the North Georgia mountains, experiencing Shabbat and Havdalah with song and dance, engaging in stimulating learning, celebrating simchas, and attending corporate retreats.

Our world class amenities, top-notch accommodations, delicious food, and dedicated staff have made Ramah Darom a camp and retreat center that’s second to none. But it’s our heart and soul that have made this a magical place, one that leaves a mark on all who spend time here. We are truly a community of caring, as exhibited no better than when we came together in the fall of 2016 to combat the wildfires that raged through our beautiful mountains.

All of these special qualities combined have made us a place unlike any other. We invite you to come experience it for yourself.
