FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR FIRST-TIME CAMPERS
11/01/2009

The RISHON incentive program, developed in collaboration with the National Ramah Commission and the Foundation for Jewish Camp , is designed to encourage new camper enrollment. Funds raised by Ramah will be matched equally by the Foundation for Jewish Camp to support this program.

RISHON will provide a $1,000 incentive grant to any eligible camper enrolling in Ramah Darom for the first time, irrespective of financial need. To be eligible this must be the child’s first Jewish overnight camping experience (of greater than three weeks) and the child must come from a community that does not offer first-year incentive grants in collaboration with the Foundation for Jewish Camp. (This includes all of Ramah Darom’s communities except Greensboro, Palm Beach, and Dallas). Next year, the program will be expanded to provide $750 incentive grants for RISHON recipients returning for a second year. For more information, please call our office at 404.531.0801 x 201.

Financial Aid Information for Parents of Returning Campers, or those First-Year Parents needing additional support

If you are seeking financial assistance, you should begin your search locally by considering the following sources:

1. Your local synagogue. Many United Synagogue congregations provide assistance on behalf of their member families for camp.

2. Your local community. Jewish Federations, Boards of Jewish Education, Jewish Family and Children Services, Jewish Vocational Services, or Community Religious Schools frequently offer camp scholarships. You should contact the organizations in your community immediately as application deadlines vary.

3. Regional Foundations provide scholarship support for campers from certain geographic areas. The Jewish Children’s Regional Service supports campers living in Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas. The Goldring Family Foundation Jewish Summer Camp Experience supports campers from Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and North West Florida.

If you are unable to access local and regional sources of financial assistance, or if you need additional assistance to supplement local sources of support, financial aid may be available from Ramah Darom. Please be advised that scholarship funds from Ramah Darom are limited and that funds are distributed on the basis of need.

Scholarship applications are available upon request from our office. Applicants are required to submit financial information to the Private School Aid Service as part of this process. If you need additional information please contact Holly Fortson, our Financial Manager, at hfortson@ramahdarom.org or at 404.531.0801 ext. 210.
